According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton have targeted Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as a possible long-term replacement for Tim Howard and have already sent scouts to watch the Dutchman in action last weekend against PSV Eindhoven. The veteran American is set to join MLS side Colorado Rapids this summer, after losing his place in the first team to Joel Robles this season. It is believed Ajax would demand a fee of up to £10m for the stopper who has 24 caps for his country and played at the 2014 World Cup. Cillessen will miss England clash at Wembley on Tuesday after he was left bloodied and bruised by Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s errant boot during a training ground collision on Sunday.
- There is absolutely no doubt in Cillessen’s qualities, he has conceded just 38 goals and kept 17 clean sheets in his 38 appearances this season and also is a permanent member of Dutch national team.
- During the last summer transfer window the 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. Ajax manager Frank de Boer conceded that it would have been difficult to keep Cillessen at the club if United came with a big offer, but the Old Trafford club seems to cooled down the interest as they managed to keep David de Gea.
- The investment of Iranian billionaire Farhad Moshiri has opened the possibility of the Blues spending big this summer to bolster the squad and the reported fee of £10million clearly won’t be a big issue for the Goodison Park club.
Considering these facts, Gib Football Show concludes that the rumours claiming ‘Everton Prepare ‘audacious’ £10million Bid for Howard Replacement’ are ‘mostly true’.
