Come the end of the season, Paris Saint-Germain full-back Gregory van der Wiel won’t have his contract in the French capital renewed and according to reports by Buzzsport, Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is someone that the Parisian club could look to sign as his replacement.
As this season progressed, the Dutch right-back dropped out of the starting XI and watched Serge Aurier come in and dominate in his position. When the Ivorian decided to speak out about his teammates and coach on Periscope, it was Brazilian centre-back Marquinhos that came into the role, not the former Ajax man.
During the 9-0 win over Troyes, Ibrahimovic apparently had a go at Van der Wiel for not passing him the ball quickler. The Dutchman was removed and wasn’t part of the post-game Championship celebrations.
It’s safe to say that Van der Wiel will not be part of the squad next season. PSG need a player that can not only play back-up to Aurier, but challenge the defender and make him push his game to the next level.
Buzzsports suggests that Barcelona are also interested in luring the Spaniard away from the Emirates, but he is one of a few names to be on Laurent Blanc and Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s shortlist.
They also mention Lille’s Sebastien Corchia and Monaco’s Fabinho – which could lead the Monegasque side to try and sign Van der Wiel.
One problem for PSG may be trying to convince the young full-back to leave England for Paris, without the guarantee of first-team football. It seems a lot of clubs are in the market for a right-back this summer, which could lead to an interesting few months in the off-season.
