According to Daily Star, Chelsea are set to steal a march on their European rivals by launching a massive £50m bid for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. The report claims that the Blues new manager Antonio Conte has told Chelsea to re-sign the 22-year-old star – and wants a deal done before Euro 2016.
It’s believed that Conte was interested in the 22-year-old then too, shortly before he resigned as Juventus manager. The Serie A champions eventually signed Alvaro Morata instead, but the Italian tactician has remained a big fan of Lukaku ever since.
The Toffees spent £28m bringing the player to Goodison from Chelsea in 2014, and are said to be demanding at least twice that figure to allow him to leave.
- With Alexandre Pato, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao are all expected to leave at the end of the season, there will be only one prolific target-man at Chelsea squad Diego Costa, who is four years older than Lukaku and bringing the promising forward to Stamford Bridge could be great investment for the future.
- Chelsea dismissed Jose Mourinho, a coach who sold the Belgian at Everton. Also Antonio Conte prefers to play with two centre-forward and Lukaku could ideally fit Italian’s football philosophy.
- The 22-year-old already proved that he’s able to be extremely effective in offence by winning battles, aerial duels, shooting from distance, one-on-one finishing and providing assists. He has netted 25 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season and also registered six assists.
- Roberto Martinez’s men currently sit 12th in England’s top division, and it seems unlikely that even Lukaku’s wildly impressive scoring record will get them into the Champions League next season – where the Belgian is desperate to play – within the next few seasons, making a move away from Goodison Park more attractive.
Considering these facts, Gib Football Show concludes that the rumours claiming ‘Chelsea to Launch Official Bid for £28m Superstar’ are ‘mostly true’.
