Contract until: June 2019

According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets in the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old is said to be demanding an increase in his wages, a move that would see him be paid similar to that of Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez. He is still tied down on a contract until 2019, but talks have come to a halt after Barca decided to put negotiations over his new deal on hold.

However, another Premier League outfit – Manchester City – are said to be interested in signing the World Champion with Pep Guardiola set to take over at the Etihad next season.

Busquets is one of the most coveted defensive midfielders in the game, having risen through the ranks at Spanish giants to become among the best in the world in his position. Now, it is Guardiola’s turn to convince Barcelona’s No.5 to join him on his Premier League adventure.

The Spanish international replaced Yaya Toure in the Nou Camp club starting line-up all those years ago. If the Bayern Munich manager has his way, perhaps history will repeat itself at the Etihad stadium.

  • The midfielder has made 375 appearances for Barcelona and is a key component in the success of the Catalan side.
  • Busquets, who spent 10 years at Camp Nou, has three more years remaining in current contract and it is very unlikely the Euroepan champions to sell him cheap. While United’s main goals during upcoming is said to be winger and a centre-forward and probably will try to sign proven stars on that positions.
  • The 27-year-old revealed he likes the Premier League, but also admitted that he is happy at his parent club.

Considering these facts, Gib Football Show concludes that the rumours claiming ‘Manchester United Plan Summer Swoop for Big Name No.5’ are ‘mostly false’. mostly falce
